Nordhausen, Beppe, reconnecting…
Hi there! I hope you are well. I had a nice week. I finally started with rehearsals of Pagliacci in Nordhausen.
I remember when I was at the Opernstudio at Zurich Opera House I saw Pagliacci, and I remember I really enjoyed listening to the aria of Beppe and I thought at that time what a beautiful little aria and I hoped to sing it one day. Well now I have the chance to sing the modest role of Beppe which is mostly the acting skills that I need for this role and be spot on with the aria. It has some duettino and some lines to sing but mostly is reacting to the other characters and doing lots of things on stage.
We started with rehearsals and it is really nice to work again with Benjamin Prins, and Gabor Hontvari. The singers are also really nice colleagues, the Canio was also kind of last minute engaged to this production like me, his name Ewandro, and we met many years ago during my time in Stuttgart, we became really friendly and over the years we somehow stayed in contact and now this week seeing each other again we talked a lot, yes tenor stuff heheh but also about the career, personal lives, etc. The other colleagues I somehow knew them indirectly and we have all friends or teachers in common, so it makes this experience very nice and very natural, the way we clicked immediately.
I am staying in Nordhausen for the first 2 weeks and it is a nice little town, really tiny and not much to do besides the theatre. I could not see myself I think being in the ensemble in a city like this, it is too peaceful to live in. Somehow also the connections with quick trains is not that convenient, it feels a very isolated city.
I am grateful I am singing again for a theatre company and meet new colleagues and make music. As freelancer, it is pretty uncertain what will come and specially now that I am kind of starting as freelancer that I am finding slowly my way and building new connections after giving 8 years of my live to Wuerzburg. Now I have finally the time to reach out and I will “persist and resist”. I am fully committed to my craft and the challenges it brings so I look forward to give all.
I keep my four times a week exercise routine and my daily morning reading and pages. I hope you are well and please take care. See you next week.
