Mexico City, Teaching, friends…

Hi there! I hope you are well. This week I finally had the time to be a bit in Mexico City, this is my last full week here, so I wanted to see some friends, enjoy my favorite coffee places, eat a lot of Mexican food and teach a bit, before I go back to Germany.

I was able to teach 3 students and I really enjoyed it, I wish I was able to stay here longer because there were some students I could not meet again and some others that were not able to take a lessons at the Masterclasses because they got full. So, next time I am here, I will plan more days to teach.

I continued this week with family reunions, and the celebration of “Tia Vicky” with her 78th Birthday. My auntie Paty and my cousin Andrea and her little baby Andre were still visiting us here in Mexico City, so for the last 15 days or so, we have seen each other everyday. Since I was a kid I did not spent that much time with my cousin and auntie, and now with baby Andre, I feel really happy to be able to spend so many days with this baby, he is great and so smart, also for his age he can do lots of things that only babies older than him start to do, he is only 1 year and 9 months old. Like me, he is left handed, and really creative. Because his father is American, little Andre speaks both Spanish and English, so he is really sweet when he says things in different languages in his baby pronunciation. For me living in Europe and without kids yet, it was really nice to spend so much time with this little guy and learn from him, and also I am so proud of my cousin Andrea and how well she is doing in this new chapter as mother.

Being in the city has been really nice, I went to some of my favourite coffee spots, I could study for the next things that are coming, also go to read and just enjoy the city and the weather. During March and April, the city has a wonderful weather and it is the time of the Jacarandas, it is like the Mexican version of the Sakura season in Japan. Jacarandas, you can google it, are so pretty and they colour the city of a vibrant violet. Mostly in Parks but also randomly in streets or houses you will find them.

I also managed to see some friends among them Marcela which is a very good singer and my friend Albert, him I met several times. I think he is probably the constant friend I have been seeing since I left Mexico almost 18 years ago, every time I come, I see him and we have been going through so much in life and I am glad that our friendship has not faded with time. We are so different, he is not a musician and his circle of friends is completely different than mine but still we are connected. Since we are in high school we have this very nice tradition of going to play Billiard, that is perhaps over 20 years of making this kind of ritual.

Being in Mexico is always great and there are so many feelings I get whenever I come back. I spent really all my adulthood away from my country, so when I come back I am still discovering and learning so much, specially how Mexicans are and get to know my family a bit better. Also the city is growing really quick and changing a lot. I grew up in the Roma Norte neighborhood and I can say that it has changed a lot since I was a kid. It used to be a normal area but now it is full of galleries, coffee places, and really gentrified. Which is great but it has also made people who use to live there move out because the raising prizes of the housing and living costs. So as long as I am in Europe, every time I come to Mexico will be always a constant discovery for me but I definitely want to come more often not only once a year.

I keep doing my exercise, my daily reading and morning pages. I will not lie, it has been incredibly challenging to keep my exercise routine here, because I have been doing so much walking around and meeting people, teaching, family, I get really tired by the end of the day and I feel a lot of resistance to do exercise this week but I push through hehehe.

I hope you are well, please take care and see you next week.
