Coaching, audition, Pagliacci…

Hi there! I hope you are well. This week was a warm one. This heat wave is going strong. After last weekend’s premiere of Pagliacci I am back home, and Aki has gone to Japan for the summer holidays, I will catch up with her in a couple of weeks, after I finish the performances.

This week I had two coachings, one concert, one audition and a performance of Pagliacci. During the coachings I worked on some arias and I am happy to be making small progress and keep preparing for whenever an opportunity comes. I had an audition or rather an Arbeitsprobe for a role. I did my best although I was not so convinced the way they see the approach to the role. Somehow is a lyric role but they wanted a color more towards a character tenor, which there is nothing wrong with it, is just not how is written in my opinion, but in this crazy world of music is all about the “taste” of each individual and whoever is doing the production. The team there was really friendly and I am glad I went and did my best. It was for a role a sang 8 years ago and, the version they do in German is with a different text from the one I did last time, the opera can be done in French or German, I did one production mixed and another only in German. Now all I have to do is to wait if an offer from them comes.

I also sang in a concert as a small favour to a coach I work with, they needed a tenor to do a duet from L’elisir d’amore with Nemorino and Adina, so I said yes because I wanted to help and I love to sing Nemorino, so any chance I get to do anything from this opera is always nice. And at the end of the week I had the third performance of Pagliacci. It was again really nice to do Beppe with these colleagues and to enjoy the music in this opera.

After I hurt my knee, I am still recovering, so exercise has been challenging, I did have to cut some exercises from my routine but I kept the rest and took care of not causing more damage to my knee. I also kept my daily reading and morning pages, and going back slowly to the rhythm of life after the rehearsal period, it always takes some days to adapt and also to recover from the hard work.
