Pagliacci, Pizza, friends…

Hi there! I hope you are well. This week was a nice one, I practised a lot and worked on my arias and some repertoire, specially taking care that my vowel “I” does not get narrow and change the position with respect to the other vowels. I notice very clear recently, it was time to reflect on this particular vowel, I got used to a certain way of producing this vowel but recently I am not happy with it because I noticed I am narrowing the throat in order to make the vowel, instead of keeping an open throat. I found the way to correct it so I committed to word by word, specially of the most common arias I sing, put a lot of care and time to fix the emission. This is something I notice specially when I took some lessons with Marcelo Alvarez, he made me feel very clear the difference, and I found with him the beginning of this change, but I did not succeed during the lessons, it was only after that, working the way he suggested I slowly found the balance to a more open throat position for this vowel.

This week, we spent the last 3 evenings with colleagues, like we had Pizza night, then after the Pagliacci from Aki we had drinks with another colleagues, Aki sang great and I am very happy for her that she can sing Nedda and the production is a nice one.  Finally, Yesterday we went to Leipzig to have a nice evening with several singers and musicians at the place of one of Aki’s friend. It is really rare to have so many nights in a row with colleagues, as I am not a night person, nevertheless I really enjoyed that each evening was really entertaining and I got to meet new musicians and people.

Today we are packing because tomorrow we will spend the day on  3 different trains and then 2 flights which one of them will be over 11 hours, as we make our way across the Atlantic to Mexico. We will visit family and go to the sea to visit also more family. This time in Mexico we will celebrate 2 very important family Birthdays and also meet my grandfather that is also flying to Mexico city to visit us. I am really looking forward to see my family and to be able to spend time with them. I think this time will be perhaps the one I see the most family. When we bought the tickets, I did not know that many family reunions are happening exactly at the time I am visiting there, so it turns out I will be there and will be able to enjoy time with the people I love and I also look forward to all the adventures that will come my way. I always explain to people that Mexico is so surreal, to which they always ask “in which sense do you mean” to which I reply, in every sense you can imagine. Every time I go there, many stories unfold and surprises and things that only in my country happen. There are even books that describe how surreal Mexico is.

I keep my daily reading and morning pages, as well as, my exercise routine.

I hope you are well, take care and see you next week.
