Cold, home, Gala…

Hi there! I hope you are well. This week I have am fighting a cold still but slowly getting better, everyday is a bit different. I have been taking care and do all I can to recover fast, because I just came to Hamburg to have a lesson with C. Merrit  tomorrow Monday and I want to be as fit as possible. I am sure I will have still a lot to stuff on my nose and not completely recover but I know I will manage. I have not seen him since beginning July, so I am looking forward to receiving again his advice. With Beppe and the concerts in Japan and UK over the summer I found a balance way of singing that suits me currently but I know that I have forgotten some of the things I worked with him, so I want to go to remember again, specially the sensations on my body at the time of getting the right quality tone, and for that I need his ears to guide me on the things I do not notice myself. Also what I really like about going to him is that he always gives me a new perspective or way of thinking, organizing the same concept, so the freshness of his advice, makes me to see tone production from another angle and that is always very helpful for me, to change perspective, also, we understand each other really well, he is very open to listening my ideas and he always puts a positive feedback.

Yesterday I went to a concert at the Opera Leipzig, opening concert of the season and I went specially to hear live to Lucio Gallo and Martin Muehle. Also, it was nice to hear to most of the ensemble in Leipzig and the Orchestra and Choir. It was a long but nice concert, full of a wide range of repertoire. Martin was really good but maybe not so fresh, I guess he is really busy right now, and Lucio Gallo is a veteran and voice still there, it was still really good. I have only respect for everyone who stands on stage and give all of them to us, the public. I also enjoyed very much some members of the ensemble, and some others were maybe not so good but they did their best. And the orchestra was at times not so expressive and musical but it was almost entirely on the hand of the conductor, that to me it seemed rushed and many times not feeling the music and definitely not breathing with singers, too mechanical and too forced the tempi in many occasions, even that the orchestra felt tight and in many places there was lacking the natural trajectory of phrases.

I keep doing my morning pages and daily reading and my exercise routine. I find that when I have a cold and still do exercise it helps me to recover faster. I have not scientific prove but in my case when I do exercise, I also feel slightly better throughout the day even when sick.

I hope you are well and please take care. See you next week.
