Studying, Lessons, train…
Hi there! I hope you had a nice week. Mine after being recently in Italy was nice to be back home and continue with my activities.
This week I went for 2 days to take lessons with my teacher. I love working with her, she is a real pedagogue so, every time I take lessons with her, they are very intentional and there is always an explanation behind every exercise that we do. Being the way I am, it is really important to me to know all the details behind an exercise and for me it helps me not only to understand better my voice but also learning about how to teach others. As you may know from previews blogs, I love reading and educating myself about the art of singing and to study the different works on vocal pedagogy, not only for my own voice but I am genuinely interested and fascinated how our vocal instrument works, and what are the opinions of teachers and pedagogues across time. When I read works from the classical period or baroque period, I like to find the connecting dots to modern point of view on technique. The psychology of it is really interesting, specially reading our predecessors and comparing and researching, it is all for me really interesting and it keeps so entertained. Of course, it is also confusing, and some ideas take time to digest, some others there are periods where I completely get what they said and other times I questioned them. Because there are many things that are almost right but not quite. As I apply it to my singing get even more complicated because I cannot truly hear myself and I sometimes do experiment and I take it to the extremes, that is why going to my teacher helps me to balance it better, sort of organizing my chaos. I studied with this teacher not long though, so I know I need more time to get where I want and patience and perseverance to improve and become better, I am willing to take the time because I know it will pay off, I am slowly finding my way. As we know it is all about balance. One thing I am sure of, in my case in order to be a better singer and interpreter the only way for me is knowledge, and experimenting and being brave to make mistakes and really explore. That is the case for me, not only in singing but in life too.
My teacher lives really far away so it takes if the trains do not run late, around 6 hours. Unfortunately, most times, train are running late here in Germany and it is since few years getting worse and worse, and trains are getting more expensive.
I continue reading my daily Stoic (Holiday) and Tolstoi. Plus I am reading Don Greene and I find it really interesting and I am one third of the book in, and it makes real sense and complementing other books that I have been reading lately. I keep up with my morning pages and exercise routines.
I hope you are well. See you next week.
