Mexico, Family, Tosti…
Hi there, this week has been one of getting use to the new time zone. I have been waking up at around 4 am and by 7 pm I am completely sleepy hahaha. So every morning I am going to Rosetta Bakery to get nice coffee and do my morning routine of my morning pages and my daily reading of Holiday and Tolstoi and also, reading the Biography from Gregory Kunde which I bought last week at Teatro Regio di Parma during the performance of Andrea Chenier.
I am slowly working on the voice and warming up and going through Dichterliebe and Tosti songs, in preparation for the concert next week. Although Mexico is my homeland it always takes me a while to get use to it. To adapt to the altitude of the city and the pollution, you feel definitely the change in your lungs or at least I feel it, specially when I have to sing long phrases I feel I struggle to get to the end of them and somehow the air pressure is different while singing.
I am eating everyday besides my normal fruits, avocado. Here avocadoes are really nice and tasty, not so cheap but definitely so much cheaper than in Germany, and most of the times avocados in Germany are not so tasty. When I come to Mexico I try to find always a fruit called mamey, it is actually really, really sweet but I do like it and specially because I have never seen it in Europe so when I am here,I try to eat it. Mexico has a incredibly variety of fruits and veggies so I do enjoy being here eating lots of different things. As you may know Mexico is very famous for its food and really there is so much variety and so delicious. I am lucky my mother is a great cook and not just because I say it, friends and family come literally to eat what she prepares.
I am looking forward to next week’s concert. There are still logistics to be done and tickets to be sold but we are confident that the concert will not be empty. To sing again in Mexico is a really nice opportunity for me to share some music with people and bring a bit of German and Italian songs to them. Now, I have done Dichterliebe few times over the last few months so I am looking forward to keep exploring new ways to color certain phrases and to be spontaneous with some musical decisions.
As I am here, I am also meeting friends but also taking care to be aware of the concert next week and not over do it or get too tired. When I am here and able to speak my language sometimes I abuse of speaking and my voice is very tired, but this time I have to contemplate the concert, so all with care.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this blog, I continue with my daily reading and I keep my 4 times a week exercise routine. Take care and see you next week.
